So, the end of the school year is almost here. My children don't have school any more and many friends are already out. CVUSD still has a schedule that takes us into the middle of June. Some of my swimmers go to a parochial school and have school until the 18th.
I hate the end of the school year. That's a strange thing to say since many teachers look forward to the end of the year. Not me. Once May sets in, I warn my students about the beginning of the end. Time goes by so quickly that we have to be careful what projects we take on and what assignments we do. The time goes by too quickly for us to mess around in class.
This year was a change for my classes and I implemented the 'Iron Chef' lessons for students to reteach major topics that we've covered this year. For German 1 and 2 this has been a great success. With German 3, not so much. We have been in the middle of essay writing and Touchcast video creation that a re-teach of the material hasn't happened the way I envisioned. I still am pleased with their progress and the review we do at the beginning of class time has been invaluable.
So again I look at the end of the year and think about next year and what I want to change, cut out, add, and improve upon. This year has been about change since we implemented Google Classroom back in August. I like the changes I've made and look forward to the changes I will make to make my classroom and even better learning environment.
