I downloaded Adobe Slate the day it came out. I looked at it and thought "pretty cool" and then did nothing with it. Such a shame considering how awesome this app really is. It took about a month of it sitting on my iPad staring at me, reminding me to explore its' possibilities. When I did, wow.
So what is Adobe Slate? It's not a book creator persay (like one of my other favorite apps is so named), it's not a Website generator, and it's not Adobe Voice (another awesome app.) What it is, though, is a beautiful tool to make a project into a visual story. The app is incredibly intuitive and there is not much missing from it. I think the only thing I would like to see would be a media option to add short videos or audio clips but then that gets into Adobe Voice a little bit.
Well then, how would we use this in the classroom? My first year German students create an ABC Dictionary at the end of the year. We have used a variety of iPad apps for this including the above named Book Creator (which I really like.) I like the finished product my students have shared. There is a beauty as I scroll through the images and text they have added to their dictionaries and it's much more fun to ready their projects.
Next steps are to have students produce a restaurant menu using Slate. I look forward to seeing the results.
