Going back to what our Associate Pastor on Sunday said about a conversation with his wife..... It's about tone. So, if you say something without any underlying meaning or feeling and the receiving person hears something, is it the person who said it or the person who heard it?
So, I ask a question to someone and get a totally unexpected and sort of mean response. So then I ask, "did you hear a tone in my voice with that question?" I then get the response that I was putting the blame of that question on the other person. At this point I was getting confused. No malice meant, no malice intended. The person then told me something not so nice. I don't think my question would ever elicit such a response and it makes me want to do one of two things. First, I want to react with anger. No, that the right response. Second, I want to become quiet and just not say anything so that nothing can be misinterpreted. I don't have an option 'C' at this point. I am spending a lot of time reflecting about this.
